Health care workers union boosts Edwards

John Edwards has picked up another big endorsement in Iowa. Too bad this story and Edward's campaign are not being covered very well. The mainstream networks have almost shut this man out in favor of the media choice- Hillary Clinton.

Hillary is getting a disproportionate amount of airtime.

Report from the Iowa Gazette

IOWA CITY - Iowa health care workers gave John Edwards' campaign for president a shot in the arm Monday with an endorsement that the candidate said will make him feel better on caucus night.

Although its numbers are relatively small -- about 2,000 members in Iowa -- Service Employees International Union (SEIU) will have a big impact in Iowa where voters are the first to make a choice in the presidential nomination process, Edwards said at the Eckstein Medical Research Building at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

``I expect it will make a difference,'' Edward said, not only because of the endorsement by the Iowa state council of SEIU, but because he also was endorsed by nine other state councils representing nearly 1 million SEIU members. SEIU state councils in California, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio and Oregon also lined up behind Edwards.

``This means we will have people and organizers and a lot of support for what we're trying to do here,'' Edwards said.

The endorsement was a ``huge victory'' for Edwards, according to his national campaign manager, former U.S. Rep. David Bonior, who called SEIU a ``major player'' in the Iowa caucuses.

``Make no mistake, everyone tried very hard to get this endorsement,'' Bonior told reporters earlier in the day. ``The commitment here is deep.''
